Ken was sponsored by Canon and the event was presented by PhillyPAC with Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) at “The White Space” venue 1425 N. 2nd Street Phila. PA 19122

Juliette Cook represented PPAC and made the introductory announcements highlighting the opportunities offered by membership in PPAC including discounts on classes, exhibitions,an available digital lab and printing services available to photographers.

Hillary Shemin, co-leader of Philly PAC thanked Nick Pappagallo, President of PAC who was in attendance from Arizona for his part in arranging this visit by Ken, then she introduced Ken,one of a very few to be honored as one of Canon’s “Explorer of Light” photographers.

Ken delighted the assembled photographers with examples of his photography over a two-hour session, including questions from the audience. Ken’s passion and talent shone throughas he displayed his works on a large screen. The guests were treated to visuals of some of his specialties, ranging from outstanding glimpses of the Northern Lights of Canada, to high-speed auto racing in California to delicate portraits of the Amish community.

Ken emphasized to the group that the goal of photographers must be, “problem solving”. That each capture must allow for careful examination of the richness of the layout, an ability to multi-task, a keen awareness of the ever changing delicate balance between subject, light, layout, exposure and the essential ability to ‘scope out new ways’, to create an exciting photograph.

“Make your capture unique and dynamic,” insisted Ken. “Pay attention to composition, framing, and placement of subject matter, is no less vital,” Ken added. Ken reminded the audience to “experiment”. Ken showed several of his time-lapsed sequences, one in particular was stunning, he blended a carefully chosen piece of music from **Triple-Scoop Music with an amalgam of the devastation of a recent Arizona forest fire. The result was hauntingly beautiful.

With a touch of humor, a teachers’s wide scope of knowledge and an eager audience, the evening was clearly a success. Ever the more for Mr. Ed Williams and Mr. Howard Creely, 2 of the recipients of some of the great door prizes supplied generously by NIK software, SmugMug and Bay Photo Lab! We were also delighted to have a full house!

**Triple Scoop Music – Music Licensing services so musicians are paid for their music just like photographers should be paid for licensing their images. Another important bit of information from Ken!Ken Sklute
